Our aim is to be the news and information destination for North East Victoria, by growing and developing print and digital products that serve our communities.

North East Media Pty Ltd as a division of Provincial Press Group Pty Ltd, is an independent family owned media group that is proud of its commitment to clients and readers. The local newspaper is the heart of a community. For over ninety years as a family business, North East Media has been committed to the communities it serves, reflecting opinions, lifestyles, aspirations, concerns and personalities, and assisting the growth of businesses of its many advertisers. The company is committed to regional development and the identity of the regions serviced. North East Media publishes award winning, fresh, quality publications, offering advertisers a cost effective medium to reach their target markets. Importantly, our people are dedicated to offering readers and advertisers exemplary service.

The company has diversified its product range, initially with magazines and special publications, to more recently launching websites, apps and digital editions.

Operations

North East Media is an award winning news and information company based at Wangaratta, Victoria, with offices at Myrtleford, Mansfield, Euroa and Surrey Hills in Melbourne. The company is also involved in related businesses with offices in Healesville and Adelaide.

Newspapers

Besides producing newspapers in progressive towns in North East Victoria, the company also has two specialist regional real estate newspapers and a regional Motor Guide covering the North East. In addition it produces a number of niche tourism, snow sports and farming titles. North East Media owns 50% of the Mail Newspaper Group, a partnership with Star News Group comprising five community newspaper mastheads based in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges and a quarterly tourist publication.

Digital

North East Media has a growing digital presence through a portfolio of websites representing our various newspaper titles; plus numerous other specialty sites including a property site dedicated to North East Victoria, northeastproperty.com.au – powered by realestateview.com.au – and the region’s online business directory, northeastdirectory.com.au.

North East Media’s publications are available in full as digital newspapers. Digital editions can be viewed via smartphone, tablet or desktop device either through North East Media Newspapers Direct website or the North East Media App on an Apple, Android (Google) or Microsoft device.

Printing

North East Media publications and a variety of other externally produced publications are printed at the company’s printing plant in Wangaratta. The modern Goss Community press line comprises three fully automated four high towers, two single units and a Muller Martini Alpha Liner inserting system.

Magazines

Associated Provincial Press Group companies publish specialist journals and magazines to the farming, wine, viticulture, olives, forests and timber industries from our Adelaide and Melbourne offices.

History

North East Media’s original publishing business was founded by WT Higgins when he purchased The Wangaratta Despatch in 1921 and Wangaratta Chronicle in 1937. The company is still owned by the Higgins family and managed by Edward Higgins, a fourth generation family member. There are over 70 people employed directly in the North East and another 45 by associated Provincial Press Group companies. Sponsorship and media support of communities and events are part of our business aims.
